Quilt for Baby Oberreuter-Charzinski #3

Finally, the chaos of construction and moving back from the substitute house has subsided a bit, and I’ve had a chance to download the picture of the quilt I made for Helene and Joachim’s youngest child, Agnes, born in May 2008.

Wow, Nancy, that’s beautiful! I love the purple-and-green color scheme, and the geometric pattern with the weaving in and out of the fabrics!

And hey, there’s some of James’s balloon fabric in there! And a little piece of something that looks like Noah’s ark – didn’t you do a Noah’s ark quilt, maybe for another one of Helene and Joachim’s children? Oooh, and there’s a bit of the Original Crackpot Quilt fabric as well, and maybe some of Andrew’s train fabric? And hey, some of the Second Crackpot Quilt’s bug fabric. (I’ve edited this comment twice now because I keep noticing more fabric that I recognize!) How clever!

Where is the pattern from? I’m trying to figure out if it’s really as complicated as it looks, or if it’s a clever combination of Snowballs and Nine-Patches.

    Thank you for posting this!

    Thanks for the compliments!

I think the pattern is called “I Spy with a Twist,” though I’m not 100% sure, and I’ve loaned the pattern out at the moment to one of the Quilting Ladies, so I can’t check to make sure. I found it at a quilting store – it was just sold as a single pattern. I was looking for something special to do for Helene and Joachim’s third baby, and as soon as I saw this, I knew it was right. It isn’t nearly as complicated as it looks – it’s a combination of snowball and modified snowball blocks along with some other straightforward blocks. You have to keep track of your pieces well so that the pattern comes out right, but the directions are really good. They’re written by a quilter who is an engineer!

I tried to use as many fabrics from quilts I had made for other special babies as I could. From top to bottom, left to right, they are
