Several of the crackpotty things I’ve been working on lately cannot be published at this time because they must be kept secret from one or more of my fellow Crackpots. However, here is something I can share. My quilting group is working on a project where everyone has a different basket block which she makes enough of for everyone in the group, and then we’ll swap once they’re all done. Here is my block: it’s a combination of piecing and applique. The first three I made in muted colors, using scraps and fabrics from my stash. I like how they turned out, but after three, I got tired of the calm colors and went for brighter fabrics, but I’ll save that for another day…

November 2nd, 2008First NaBloPoMo 08!
November 1st, 2008Our sewing guild is decorating a tree for the local Free Health Clinic. We are using, of course, a sewing theme. Everyone is contributing decorations. These are the ones I made yesterday. They are my own design, from an idea that came early not that early one morning as I was trying to decide whether to get up.
As always with crackpot projects, there were a few engineering issues to be dealt with, most prominently how to keep the spools on the assigned places on the ribbons. For future reference, the holes in the spools are larger than you might think. I ended up putting a tiny safety pin through the knot below the yellow spool.

October 30th, 2008Chair Pads, version 2.0
October 20th, 2008
Here are the two chair pads I made with the football applique on them. I’m very happy with how the machine applique turned out. The owners of the chair pads are pleased, too.
This is the second set of dining room chair pads I’ve made for the boys. I made some modifications, based on my experiences with the first set. These pads are trapezoid-shaped, instead of square. I think that fits better on the chair. I also changed the location of the ties from right in the corner to about an inch in the corner, which was a definite improvement. I also made the ties longer, which makes tying them much easier! And, I used ribbon instead of store-bought binding for the ties. I’ll have to wait until the first wash to see how it holds up.
This is a lot of blogging for me – maybe I’m warming up for NaBloPoMo – that’s November, isn’t it?
Crackpotty Applique 2.0
October 16th, 2008First Attempt at Machine Applique
October 13th, 2008It’s been about a month since our return from the substitute house, and I finally dusted off my sewing machine and got things set up so I could sew a little. Yay! I was inspired to finally try some machine applique by this month’s Quiltmaker, which has an ad for fabric that shows some cute Christmas placemats with machine applique. I’ve always avoided machine applique, thinking that I didn’t have a good enough machine or good enough machine sewing skills, but I finally decided to give it a try, and here’s the result. Not half bad! More crackpotty activities to follow…
Quilt for Baby Oberreuter-Charzinski #3
October 1st, 2008Holy Upgrades, Batman!
September 26th, 2008Wow!
That was just slightly nerve-wracking, but in the end, very manageable! I think everything is working now, but send me a quick note if you see something amiss.
I was correct about one thing: the interface you use to post entries to the blog is very different. But I think y’all will find it pretty easy to use. The only tricky part is finding the link to upload a photo. There’s a blue bar just below the box where you type the title of the post, and in that blue bar, it says “Add media”. The first little icon there — it looks like a rectangle, very intuitive (not) — is for uploading a photo. Just click on it and follow the instructions. I’ll try to get one or more screen shots posted soon.

Impending Blog Implosion
September 26th, 2008Okay folks, I’ve backed up the blog software (WordPress) – at least, I think I backed up everything, this was my first experience with phpMyAdmin – and I’m about to try the upgrade. I’ve no idea what will happen to the blog in the mean time, but with any luck, we’ll be back up and running shortly!
Hang on for a wild ride!
September Project Completed!
September 6th, 2008I finished my September Bead Journal Project early. Hey, start early, finish early. This is it.
I’m pleased with the way it turned out, and I’m anxious to start on the next on. But what should I do? September 2.0? October Beta? Or October 1.0?
I have a few ideas for the next one, but I haven’t decided for sure so I guess I will keep busy with some other things.
If you want to see more about the beading process, go to my other blog, Crackpot Beader.
(Note to techies: See I did learn to link to my other blog.)
