I finally got a chance last night to press the yellow and orange hearts that I plan to use for the reversible baby bibs. Here they are!

Here’s my second scrappy orange heart. Now I’m working on turning it and the other hearts into reversible orange and yellow heart bibs for two little girls who will start eating solid foods in a month or so.

Here is a look at my log cabin basket with its appliqué handle. I haven’t connected the three log cabin blocks that form the basket, but you still get a pretty good sense of how it will look.

The next task is to appliqué the flower stems and leaves.

The directions said to use 5/8″ bias strips for the stems. It had been a while since I had made bias stems, so I had to look up how to do them, but it went quickly. I got to use one of the pressing bars from a set given to me by one of the Quilting Ladies for the first time. It worked very well!

These 1 1/2″ orange strips are waiting until it’s cooler to be pressed and turned into a scrap heart like these

When that’s done, I’ll have 2 yellow and 2 orange hearts that I plan to sew into reversible bibs for Mira and Audra. They’ve just turned 4 months old, and their mom is looking forward to trying solid food around 6 months. I wish I could say I had planned the bibs to be yellow and orange like their quilts, but actually I just found the backing fabric in my stash and decided yellow and orange hearts would look good with it. Then, after I had made the first three hearts, I had to decide what to do with them, and baby bibs seemed like a good idea. So, that worked out well!

Choosing Colors

I’m working on choosing colors for the flowers in my Log Cabin Basket block. Here are some of the possibilities I found among my scraps. I’m going to make the flowers orange and yellow to match the towels in our half bathroom – you can see one in the top right hand corner of the picture. I need some bigger pieces of green for the stems, so I think I’ll need to go into my stash for that. Decisions, decisions…
